Quick answer: TikTok SMS verification is a one-time code that TikTok texts to your phone to confirm you own the number. TikTok asks for it when you sign up with a phone number, log in from a new device, reset your password, or use SMS for 2-step verification. Any working mobile number can receive the TikTok code. If you would rather not share your personal number, you can receive it online with a private virtual mobile number from sms.tc, usually within 10-60 seconds.
What Is TikTok SMS Verification?
TikTok SMS verification is TikTok's phone-based security check. When you enter a phone number, TikTok sends a short numeric code by text message. Typing it into the app proves you control that number and links it to your TikTok account, where it later serves as a login method and recovery option.
TikTok also lets you sign up with an email address or another account, but many features and security settings work best with a verified phone number.
When Does TikTok Ask for a Verification Code?
- Signing up with a phone number - TikTok texts a code before creating the account.
- Logging in with "Use phone" - TikTok can sign you in with a code instead of a password.
- New device or unusual login - TikTok may ask you to verify it is really you.
- 2-step verification - when SMS is one of your chosen methods.
- Password reset or changing the phone number on the account.
Which Numbers Work for TikTok SMS Verification?
| Number type | Works for TikTok? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile number (carrier SIM) | Yes | Standard way to receive the code |
| VoIP apps | Unreliable | Codes are often delayed or filtered |
| Free "receive SMS online" sites | Rarely | Overused; anyone can read the code |
| Number already linked to a TikTok account | No | Shows "already registered" |
| sms.tc virtual mobile number | Yes, in most cases | Carrier-issued; SMS visible only to you |
sms.tc numbers are carrier-issued mobile numbers rather than VoIP lines, so they receive TikTok codes in most cases. Acceptance varies by country, and TikTok shows region-specific content based on several signals, not only your number.
How to Get a TikTok Verification Code with a Virtual Number
- Create a free account at sms.tc and add a small balance.
- Open SMS Activation and search for TikTok.
- Pick a country. Live prices and stock are shown per country.
- Click Buy Number - a private virtual number is assigned instantly.
- In TikTok, choose Use phone, select the country, and enter the number.
- The TikTok code appears on your sms.tc order page, usually within 10-60 seconds.
- Enter the code in TikTok to finish verification.
A one-time activation stays open for about 20 minutes. If nothing arrives, cancel and buy a number from another country - you are not charged when no SMS is received.
One-Time Number or Rental Number?
| One-time activation | Rental number | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Sign-up verification | Creator accounts you will keep |
| Validity | About 20 minutes | Days to weeks, renewable |
| Future login and 2FA codes | Not guaranteed | Yes, while the rental is active |
| Price | From a few cents | Higher, billed per period |
If you are building an audience on TikTok, do not leave a short-lived number as your only login method. Use a rental number or your own phone, and add an email address as a second recovery option.
TikTok Verification Code Not Received? 8 Fixes
- Wait about 60 seconds before tapping "Resend code" - TikTok rate-limits requests.
- Check the country code and remove any leading zero.
- Look in spam or blocked messages on your own phone.
- "Maximum number of attempts reached" - stop requesting codes and try again later.
- Update the TikTok app or try the website.
- Turn off your VPN - unusual locations can trigger extra checks.
- Switch to email sign-up temporarily if SMS keeps failing on your own number.
- Use a fresh number - cancel the virtual number and pick another country.
Use Virtual Numbers Responsibly
TikTok's Community Guidelines prohibit spam, fake engagement, impersonation, and creating accounts to get around a ban. Use a virtual number to keep your personal number private on your own account, not to run fake accounts or inflate views and followers. TikTok removes accounts that break these rules regardless of the phone number behind them.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a virtual number for TikTok SMS verification?
Yes. TikTok sends its code to any working mobile number, and sms.tc virtual numbers are carrier-issued mobile numbers, so TikTok SMS verification works with them in most cases.
Why is my TikTok verification code not coming?
TikTok codes usually fail because of a wrong country code, too many resend requests, a spam filter, or a number already linked to another TikTok account. Wait a minute, check the number, and request the TikTok code again.
What does "Maximum number of attempts reached" mean on TikTok?
TikTok shows "Maximum number of attempts reached" when a device or number has requested too many codes. Stop requesting codes for a while, or use a different number.
Can I sign up for TikTok without a phone number?
Yes. TikTok also allows sign-up with an email address. A phone number is still useful for TikTok login codes and account recovery.
Should I use a rental number for TikTok 2-step verification?
A rental number is the better choice for TikTok 2-step verification, because TikTok will send future login codes to the same number. A one-time number expires after about 20 minutes.
How much does a TikTok number cost on sms.tc?
A TikTok number on sms.tc costs from a few cents, depending on the country. Live prices are on the SMS Activation page, and you are not charged if no code arrives.
